At Mountain Memories Farm, we give you a taste of what true farm life is really like. Our rentals are an example of farm living the way it has been for generations. Our farm visits will give you and your children the experience of a lifetime. If you are lucky, you might even get to see a new baby lamb being born.
Being fortunate enough to have been born and raised on a fourth generation farm has made us want to share the experience with everyone. This is the kind of life that you don't often experience. The relaxed country, kicked back, no set schedule attitude is the best way that you can get back in touch with yourself and it makes you realize what is really important in life.
Come and get away from the crazy, schedule ridden everyday life that you lead. Emergency situations here at the farm differ from in large cities. One of our emergencies might be that our sheep are out in the road. No big deal, we go put them back in the field and fix the fence.
We invite you to come visit us at our farm. Here you will experience a down home friendly, welcoming attitude that will make you want to come back and see us again.
You might even want to take a part of the farm home with you as a reminder of your stay. Farm fresh eggs, what a tasty reminder when you set down at the table. Delicious lamb on the dinner table will bring back wonderful memories of your stay here with us. Ask us about availability and prices before you leave us.
If you have ever longed for the farm life or are just simply curious about what farm life is, then spend a week or so just hanging out with us. Or if you like, you can pitch in and help, if you don't mind getting a little dirty. Teach your kids, here on the farm children are called kids, where the food on your table comes from and what farm life is all about.
Kids as well as adults can help do the chores around the farm which include:
Feeding the sheep.
Bottle feeding the lambs, four times a day.
Working the sheep monthly.
Feeding the chickens and gathering the eggs.
Feed the rabbits.
Feed the horses and Chester the pony.
Weed the garden.
Pick the vegetables if in season. We might even throw some on the grill.
Help can the vegetables for the winter.
Weed the flower garden.
Work in the hay field.
Check the fence and help repair to make sure the animals can't get in the road.
When all the work is done it's time to play. Or heck just skip the work and explore. Just a few of the things you can do are:
Go fishing in the Jefferson National Forest for brook trout, or brown trout. Hale's Lake is stocked with Rainbow Trout. We also live near Elk Creek which is stocked also for great fishing.
Pack a picnic and to to Comers Rock Lookout also in Jefferson National Forest. Be sure to take your cameras- awesome views of the surrounding mountains.
Hike the Iron Mountain Trails.
Bike on miles of dirt (yes dirt) roads through the mountains.
Take a mountain tour (we'll go along).
Canoe down the second oldest river in the world, The New. Bring your fishing poles.
Pack your back pack and camp on the farm. Watch the sunset then set by the campfire and cook a hotdog with roasted marshmellows or smores for desert.
Bring your horses and ride the nearby horse trails in the National Forest, or just ride on nearby dirt roads. At the right time of the year you would love to ride the famous Cove Ride with spectactular views and lots of dirt roads. Trail maps will be available at the farm.
Visit a nearby Ole Time Farm-see fields plowed using horse drawn plows. Tours available.
Or visit one of the many surrounding local attractions. Ask us for information.
Mollie our sheep dog.
